Anything on a stick tastes better on National Lollipop Day!

The photo you saw to get here featured Gracie eating a fresh blackberry lollipop! And Wildwood is famous for its Doo Wop history (Charlie the Turtletoter is a former Wildwood Doo Wop Tour Guide). On the tour, Charlie would always lead the tour bus singing the famous Lollipop song as the bus went by the Lollipop Motel!

Pictured left, Bart and Rocky gaze at Gracie as she prepares to eat a blueberry lollipop! For a photo of Bart with his own blueberry lollipop, SCROLL DOWN…

Big Black Bart loves Blueberry Lollipops!

Turtlesinger Tortoises Gracie and Bart love eating all kinds of lollipops, so we always celebrate National Lollipop Day.

Rocky is a much smaller turtle, a box turtle: so eating off a chopstick is much harder for him due to the smaller size of his mouth. However, he loves eating blueberries on the ground!

To see Bart about to eat yet another kind of lollipop, SCROLL DOWN…

And now for a completely different lollipop!

Some of the lollipops the turtles love that you won’t see here on the blog today are grape lollipops, watermelon lollipops, and I even wrote a Turtlesinger song inspired by a fresh summer vegetable, called Squash Lollipops! Recently, Bart enjoyed some fresh eggplant, so no doubt he would eat an eggplant lollipop, too. It has been fun inspiring kids to eat healthy fruit and vegetable lollipops in our past Turtlesinger Shows, and we’ve had some Turtle Teas where we served all the kids fruit lollipops as one of the courses. For video of Bart being offered 3 different kinds of turtle lollipops (see which kind he refuses to eat that day), and for the last question of the day, SCROLL DOWN…

Today’s 3rd Question Is: Can you name the 3 kinds of lollipops Bart is offered in the video left?

The idea of turtle lollipops came out of wanting a way to feed Bart safely, because his beak is serrated like a knife, and sharp! Bart would never bite anyone out of hostility or meanness, but when he’s hungry, he’s eager to eat and could bite someone feeding him by mistake. So, we save our chopsticks and they make perfect turtle lollipop sticks! Bart loves eating turtle lollipops—possibly because they mimic vegetable stalks in nature, or because turtles in the wild would be able to eat hanging fruit. Another reason he might like his turtle lollipops so much is because turtles have a very good sense of smell, and having his food on a stick reduces any other smells on our fingers or hands from the food, which may make it even more appealing. All we know is that Bart seems to like being fed on a stick more than any other way! This may also be because red-footed tortoises like Bart are extremely gregarious and enjoy the stimulation of human interaction. During this Covid-19 shutdown of our Turtlesinger Shows, Bart seems to miss the stimulation of them the most out of all our turtles. If he could talk, we think he would say, “Where are all the kids and people to feed me lollipops!?”

Thanks as always for reading, and we hope you celebrate National Lollipop Day with your own lollipops in your own special way!
