Big Black Bart Bite!

Big Black Bart, our 37-year-old red footed tortoise here, is going for another bite of strawberry, and this photo became the cover photo of our Turtlesinger Calendar this year. It may seem early to us here in Cape May County to celebrate strawberries…and yet, speaking of early: just a few weeks ago on February 19th—President’s Day—we saw yellow and purple crocuses as well as daffodils blooming at the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse gardens in North Wildwood! To enjoy some strawberry turtle outfits, SCROLL DOWN…

Made Just For Gracie

This was the first strawberry outfit Gracie wore to The West Cape May Strawberry Festival. It was made for her by the late Melody Murphy, a member of the Villas Holy Spirit Lutheran Church Prayer Shawl Group. Melody created several different outfits for Gracie. Strawberry Box Turtle

Our turtles were such a hit at The West Cape May Strawberry Festival—where people got to feed the turtles strawberries on sticks—that we had some strawberry outfits made especially for them! Rocky tries on his strawberry outfit for the first time in this video. Box turtles are known to enjoy strawberries—but interestingly enough, Rocky is not a fan. Rocky does enjoy eating blueberries, though. To see Rocky with Gracie in a matching strawberry outfit, SCROLL DOWN…

Two Strawberry Turtles

Gracie got a new strawberry outfit, which is just as well since we lost her other one pictured above. Gracie loves all kinds of berries as well as strawberries: blueberries, raspberries, blackberries: we’ve never seen her refuse to eat a berry! Gracie also wore a blueberry costume for The Blueberry Festival in Whitesbog Village. To see Big Black Bart with Gracie in their strawberry outfits, SCROLL DOWN…

Bigger Strawberry Turtles

Big Black Bart, dressed in his strawberry outfit, stared at Gracie, who always captures his attention. This photo was taken within our blue Covid safe wall, where the turtles can roam freely on the grass. We loved having a tree within our wall for shade, too. This photo was taken at The West Cape May Strawberry Festival when it was located behind Borough Hall instead of at Wilbraham Park. For a photo of all 3 strawberry turtles, SCROLL DOWN…

Three Strawberry Turtles!

Here is a photo of all three turtles at The West Cape May Strawberry Festival! We got spoiled with all of the room for the turtles to roam and the ability to use our Covid wall at the Borough Hall location, so after the festival returned to Wilbraham Park, we discontinued bringing the turtles there. But it’s still a great festival, and you can still see the turtles elsewhere with more room. Next, to see our snapping turtle, Spike, wearing Bart’s outfit, SCROLL DOWN…

Strawberry Snapper

Even Spike, our snapping turtle, tried on Big Black Bart’s strawberry outfit! Spike is a very laid-back snapping turtle. Watch for Spike at some of our LTE’s (Live Turtle Encounters) in Stone Harbor! Be sure and check our Upcoming Events here on our website and feel free to call us to see exactly when we’ll be in town. Proud Strawberry Tortoise!

Big Black Bart enjoyed wearing his strawberry outfit while strolling inside our Covid wall at The West Cape May Strawberry Festival! Sometimes people ask us if the outfits keep the turtles warm. The answer is no, the outfits don’t, but we do by only bringing our turtles outside for events if the weather is warm enough for turtles. Thanks as always for reading and for helping us celebrate National Strawberry Day in a very turtle way!
