Into the Woods



Our birthday girl, Gracie, has a genetic birth defect—a sort of indentation and consequent bump in her shell. I’m so grateful she had this defect, because it was this defect that made her owners want to find a new home for her! All of her siblings hatched with the same defective shell.

Soaking up the Rays

Travancore tortoises like Gracie are native to southern India, although Gracie hatched right here in the United States.

Tortoise on the Move



During Live Turtle Encounters in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, Gracie here is in a grassy area that has its own low wall. This is a wonderful way for the turtles to move about freely yet still be contained, while we also can manage our distance from others. It works because we, unlike so many others we know, have yet to catch Covid!

Pretty in Purple!



Here is Gracie with a background of purple on our way in to Stone Harbor for Live Turtle Encounters.


Gracie’s birthday has been celebrated with families and children at Turtlesinger events many times over the past 24 years, and we’re so blessed to have had her for 35 years (so far)! Gracie could outlive us, so we’ve made provisions for her care in our wills.
