You can hear how excited I was that we were able to capture this little girl come right up our turtle ramp and onto our property: just like maybe she’d done it before—thus her name. We filmed her on June 20th and she finished laying her eggs by 1:16 p.m. She chose the highest part of our sand pile to lay her eggs…what a smart cookie!
People originally scoffed at the idea of our installing and using a turtle ramp over our bulkhead, but we’ve seen turtles use it over the years, and here’s (more) proof (we have other video’s too, including a past blog on June 27, 2020--of possibly even the same turtle)! The beauty is that turtles might choose to use our bulkhead to access our property to lay their eggs versus using the road and therefore bypassing the great chances of being killed crossing the road to get to our property!
Nest #7 (“Grass Digger”) eventually turned out to be a false alarm. It looked like a turtle had laid eggs there so we covered the site, but we didn’t actually see a turtle laying eggs there, and the supposed nest site never resulted in any eggs later.
So, for Nest #8, SCROLL DOWN…
